CSA Call for 2019 Board Nominations

Return to Blog

Nominations for the CSA Board of Directors are open! There are four open positions available, each with a three-year term beginning in May 2019.

Nominations of others and self-applications are equally encouraged. Before making a nomination, please familiarize yourself with the priority areas of expertise needed, as well as with the CSA board member job description.

Critical Areas of Experience and Expertise Being Sought:

The board does and will continue to include representatives with a wide range of expertise in this field. The current board has identified several additional priority areas of experience or expertise that are particularly desirable for new board members to have, to grow the capacity of the board and the association. Those are:

  • Development/fundraising experience (with emphasis on cultivation of individual donors, planned giving, and/or development of membership programs)
  • Financial management
  • Organizational governance

Nominations Process:

Nominations are due by January 25, 2019 and applications are due by February 1, 2019. A board member job description is available on the CSA website at https://www.citizenscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/CSA-Board-Member-Responsibilities-2019.pdf. Please contact nominations@citizenscience.org with any questions or concerns.

More Details About the Nominations Process:

To help build a board with the priority expertise needed (see above), the nominations committee crafts a ballot of nominees with requisite skills. Last year more than 20 people were nominated, and 10 were selected for a ballot with five open positions. This year’s ballot will be available to all paid members of the Association. The nominations committee, made up of a subset of current and former board members and working group members, uses a predefined set of criteria to review each candidate. At least three people review each nominee, and then meet via conference call to discuss candidates.

Thank you for your commitment to improving the Citizen Science Association by making a nomination of a candidate or candidates.

Sincerely,

Alison Parker

On behalf of the CSA Nominations Committee
